NAME THE BABY LLAMA

Name The Baby Llama Competition

"Bubble" the llama film star (BBC1 Strange Pets 31st Aug) has had a baby. For a donation you are invited to help name her. Friends of the Children of Orissa

Registered Charity No. 1074935, Web site www.orissa.org.uk. Hon. Secretary Dr. Uschi Kraus-Harper, The Old Farm House, 37 Filgrave, Bucks, UK.

This charity was set up in 1992, to support a children's charity called Palli Unnayan Seva Samity, or 'PUSS', in Orissa, one of the poorest states in India. PUSS works in a group of villages near Bhubaneswar, the State capital, and runs a school for local children, with a boarding section for orphans, for the children of sexworkers or leprosy patients, or other destitute people.

We are now supporting the upkeep of 325 children in the boarding section. About 250 of them are girls, whose position is particularly disadvantaged in India. They range from two years old to sixteen, and a number of them have left the school to go for further education and employment, thanks to the good education they have received.

Our chairman and other friends visit PUSS regularly in the course of other work, and we have no administrative costs, in UK or in India. Every penny we raise goes directly for the upkeep of the children in Orissa.

It costs only ten pounds a month, or 120 pounds a year, to pay for the upkeep of one child at the PUSS school. Many of our friends support us by regular donations of this amount by standing order, often with the added benefit of gift aid. The necessary forms can be downloaded from our website.
